For information about printing with DCPS in OpenVMS (on Alpha, VAX, and Itanium
hardware), see: http://h71000.www7.hp.com/openvms/Print
For information about installing OS/2 printer drivers, Macintosh OS components, or other systems, see the associated installation notes, readme files, or other product information for that particular system.
This document provides specific installation, compatibility, and troubleshooting information. For additional information about printer features and driver features, see the printer user guide and the online help included with each software component.
All users require this printing system software to operate the HP LaserJet 2410/2420/2430 series printers. Network clients need the installation CD-ROM, or the name of the appropriate network directory, to install the software on their individual workstations.
The printer CD-ROM has software for IBM-compatible computer systems and Apple Macintosh (and compatible) systems. For more information about a particular driver or software component, see its associated online help.
Network administrators can use HP Web Jetadmin to configure and manage HP printers across a variety of operating systems.
NOTE: HP Web Jetadmin is not included on the software CD-ROM. Network administrators can download the HP Web Jetadmin software at the following URL: http://www.hp.com/go/webjetadmin.
Network administrators can use the HP LaserJet Utility for Macintosh OS to configure and manage HP printers on the Macintosh OS. The HP LaserJet Utility is called, “hp OS 9 LaserJet Utility” and is found on the software CD in the “hp OS 9 LaserJet Utility” folder. The printing-system software CD-ROM also includes Adobe® PPD files for the Macintosh printer driver.
The printing-system software CD-ROM includes the Installer Customization Wizard as one of the installer options. This customization utility allows network administrators to create a custom printer driver installation package that includes only the components you choose to deploy within your organization. You are prompted to select the components from the contents of the printing-system software CD-ROM. If the printer drivers you have selected support preconfiguration, you are prompted to preconfigure the printer driver settings as part of this process. Upon completion, the customization utility provides you with an executable file (*.exe). You can deploy the executable file using standard software deployment mechanisms to install the preconfigured printer drivers on client machines. This utility supports silent batch operations. To access the customization utility, select the Installer Customization Wizard option on the first CD-ROM browser screen.
For more information on the Installer Customization Wizard, please see the CustomizationDoc.rtf file in each language directory of the software CD-ROM.
NOTE: HP Preconfiguration is supported for all the PCL6 and PS drivers in Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003, and the PCL6 drivers for Windows 98 and Windows NT 4.0.
The HP Preconfiguration solution is a component of the Installer Customization Wizard. The HP Preconfiguration component is used by network administrators to preconfigure a printer driver before deployment and installation within an operating environment. It is most beneficial when configuring printer drivers for multiple workstations and printers that share the same configuration. Two classes of features can be configured: Device Settings and Printing Preferences. Use this solution to configure the printer driver to match the printer hardware so that access to all of the Device Settings through the printer driver is enabled appropriately (for example, for duplexing units and additional input trays and output bins). You can also preconfigure most Printing Preferences settings. The following printer driver features can be locked to prevent end-users from changing settings:
·

·

More information about the HP Preconfiguration Utility is available at the following URL: http://www.hp.com/go/hpdpc_sw.
A printer driver is a software program that enables your software applications to gain access to the printer features. Typically, you should install a printer driver for each printer. The printing-system software CD-ROM that came with your printer includes the following Windows printer drivers:
·
HP
LaserJet 2410/2420/2430 series PCL6 printer driver for Windows 98, Windows Me,
and Windows NT 4.0, all with similar graphical user interfaces
·

The most recent printer drivers and printing software for the HP LaserJet 2410/2420/2430 series printers are available at the following URL: http://www.hp.com/go/lj2410_software or http://www.hp.com/go/lj2420_software or http://www.hp.com/go/lj2430_software.
Additional printer drivers might be available from a Hewlett-Packard distributor or from online sources. See the “Technical Assistance” section of this document or the printer user guide for more information about obtaining printer drivers and other HP software.
The printing system includes the HP Toolbox software component. HP Toolbox provides printer and job status information, such as jobs waiting to print, toner and paper levels, consumable and supplies reorder information, and the ability to view the control panel. The HP Toolbox can be configured to appear when attention is needed at the printer.
Use Acrobat Reader 4.05 or later to view the online manuals.
The user guide is located in the following places:
· on the printer software CD-ROM,
· from within the HP LaserJet printer program group (for Windows operating systems),
· from within HP Toolbox (click the Documentation tab).
NOTE: Some documents are not available in all languages on the CD-ROM. Please check the following URL for more documentation and information: http://www.hp.com/support/lj2410 or http://www.hp.com/support/lj2420 or http://www.hp.com/support/lj2430.
NOTE: In working toward the goal of allowing everyone access to technology, HP has provided the user guides for this product in HTML Help format (.CHM). The HTML Help format is compatible with most screen-reader programs.
Use the uninstall utility to select and remove any or all of the Windows HP printing system components. See the "Uninstaller" section for more instructions.
The latest printer drivers and printing software for the HP LaserJet 2410/2420/2430 Series Printer are available at the following URL: http://www.hp.com/go/lj2410_software or http://www.hp.com/go/lj2420_software or http://www.hp.com/go/lj2430_software.
See the HP LaserJet 2410/2420/2430 Series Printer software download page at http://www.hp.com/go/lj2410_software or http://www.hp.com/go/lj2420_software or http://www.hp.com/go/lj2430_software for an updated listing of known issues for the HP LaserJet Printing‑System software. Use the link for the “Release Notes” or “Read Me” file found on the driver download page for the operating system and driver version to be used.
When operating in a Windows environment, the CD-ROM setup or installation software detects the version of the operating system that you are running. The software installs in the language that you select. For example, if you are running an English version of Windows and have the language preference set to Spanish, the installation utility will install the Spanish version of the printing software for the appropriate Windows version.
